Epoch Boats evolves to Eco Boat Life - a resource for boaters to discover & experience electric boating and an eco-friendly boating lifestyle
The Epoch Boats brand is now part of a network of boating lifestyle sites with a new brand: Eco Boat Life.
While we may no longer be aspiring to build electric boats under the Epoch Boats company & brand, our new brand continues on our commitment to the mission of helping more boaters upgrade their boat life with electric and eco-friendly boating products made for a greener & more efficient journey on the water.
The goal has always been to get more boaters to adopt a cleaner, more efficient way to boat.
Our Back Story
When Epoch Boats was formed in 2021, we set out to build a low cost, low maintenance electric powered boat that would enable more boaters to experience electric boating. Our vision was to design and manufacture battery electric boats with the speed and range expected by customers, while maintaining a competitive price point with the gas powered incumbents on the market... encouraging more boaters to jump on board with electric boating.
Our small team of marine industry veterans - specializing in engineering, production and market introduction of new boating products - was able to make a big impact in a relatively short period of time. We got to work on designing and quickly moved from math models to the model shop to build our first prototype boat.
In mid-March 2022 Epoch Boats launched a prototype boat, opened up a customer waitlist that grew to over $4M in value, received accolades & recognition from the industry and enormous publicity from some of boating’s top journalists worldwide. Boaters and the industry were clearly excited about electric boating.
Our Pivot
Entering 2023, the Epoch team was faced with some hard decisions about a path forward in a difficult fundraising environment. Despite all our success with our prototype testing, customer waitlist & industry accolades we were unable to raise enough capital to make our vision a reality.
But we learned A LOT along the way. And the desire to help more boaters experience the benefits of electric boating remained strong.
The Next Evolution
Building on everything we have learned in our startup venture, Epoch Boats has transitioned to Eco Boat Life - a resource to help boaters find the best electric outboard motors, electric-ready boats, solar power accessories and eco-friendly products to help make their electric aspirations a reality.
While we will not be directly building & selling electric boats, we'll be partnering with companies that offer the best options in the industry for boaters to experience electric boating.
Eco Boat Life is now part of a network of boating lifestyle sites run by one of Epoch's original co-founders, Diane Seltzer. Other boating industry sites in the network include:
